The importance of taking action . . .

Recently, as I was jacking around, deep into numerous (and unproductive) internet rabbit holes, I stumbled upon this quote:

"The man who does not read good books has no advantage over the man who cannot read them."
- Mark Twain

There is no difference between does not and cannot.

Takeaway:

Ability is nothing without action.

I found this quote to be a good personal reminder. Apparently, even the World Wide Web recognized that I needed to see it. 😒 I'm notorious for researching and studying when I likely already have plenty of information and I just need to make a dang move. I need to take action.

Reader, is there something lurking in your life where, deep down, you know you need to take action?

This is your nudge.

Book Recommendation!

I'm a huge fan of nonfiction. I recently finished Empire of Pain by Patrick Radden Keefe and wow - it was a doozy.

Here's my Goodreads review:

A disturbing exposé of the Sackler family and their role in the opioid crisis. This book is a stark reminder of how unchecked corporate power can lead to devastating public health consequences. If you wondered whether the FDA and other public health agencies were "compromised" during COVID, this will show you that regulatory capture was complete long ago. Media capture? Yeah - that's nothing new either.

Is no one above being bought and paid for?

I was particularly blown away by the wide web of influence the Sackler brothers established by creating market research firms, medical publications, and advertising firms. They even negotiated an agreement with an EMR company.

Steer clear of this book if you're sensitive to stories of extreme greed, abuse of power, and disregard for human life. The family used their immense wealth and influence to shield themselves from accountability, employing legal and public relations strategies to deflect blame and maintain their fortune.

Thoroughly researched, expertly written, and deeply depressing.

Have you read it?? Let me know!

Yard Project Update:

My latest effort was focused on getting the front circle prepped, planned, and planted.

Next up - finalizing the side yard as my husband works to finish the water feature he's building into the retaining wall in the back yard.

Yup - it'll be a work in progress for quite some time. I don't want to guess just HOW long.

I hope to see you soon!
